Word Description
adapter Adapters convert one type of connection to another. Pre-terminated cables that have different styles of connectors on each end are not adapters, even though they can serve the same purpose. We lump such cables in with all the other interconnect (pre-terminated) cables.
CL2 An National Electrical Code rating that means that a wire or cable is rated for in-wall use.
CL2R An National Electrical Code rating that means that a wire or cable is rated for in-wall use or in-riser use.
CL3 An National Electrical Code rating that means that a wire or cable is rated for in-wall use.
CL3R An National Electrical Code rating that means that a wire or cable is rated for in-wall use or in-riser use.
CMR An National Electrical Code rating that means that a wire or cable is rated for in-wall use or in-riser use. Essentially the same as CL3R.
connector A piece of hardware that permanently affixes to the end of a cable. Connectors allow cables to be attached and detached more easily.
converter A converter converts one type of signal to another. Adaptors simply change the physical type of plug or jack. A converter may change the style of plug or jack, but they also change the signal format to be compatible. Converters may be one way (the only convert from one type to the other, not backwards) or they may be two-way (converts either direction). One- or two-way definitions are meaningless for adaptors.
DSL Digital Subscriber Line -- A way of sending high-speed data over an existing telphone line. If properly filtered, it does not interfere with normal telephone use.
RJ31X A specially wired modular jack.
SRS Processing SRS Processing is a licensed technology by SRS Labs. It takes any stereo audio source and performs variable sound field expansion. This has the effect of "widening" the apparent sound stage. Although similar the "wide" setting available on many stereo TV's, this effect is considerably improved. It is also continuously variable in each zone so that it can be as subtle or as pronounced as desired.
